Dr John Price
Dr Price is a Senior Lecturer and programme leader for BA (Hons) Sports Journalism at the University of Sunderland, UK. His research interests include social media and sports journalism, news production theory and press coverage of the EU.
Dr Daniel Kilvington
Dr Kilvington is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Sunderland. His PhD, which was achieved in January 2013, examined the barriers facing British Asian football communities. His areas of expertise include ‘race’, racism, ethnicity and social media. He works alongside number of sporting organisations and is the Trustee of the Zesh Rehman Foundation (ZRF).
Dr Price and Dr Kilvington, along with Dr Amir Saeed and Neil Farrington published the co-authored book Race, Racism and Sports Journalism (2012). This research examined cases of racism and stereotyping within the sport media, notably print journalism. The book was very much considered action research as a number of recommendations were put forward to challenge racism in the sport media. Dr Price and Dr Kilvington are also co-authors of the book Sport, Racism and Social Media (2014). The book explores the causes of online racism; highlights examples of social media racism in football, cricket, boxing, ice hockey and basketball; and offers solutions regarding challenging racism on social network sites.
